The tragic story of Faruk Hossen, a 40-year-old hardworking man from Char Matua, Noakhali, is shared with deep sorrow and humility. He was struck down in an act of senseless violence on August 4, 2024. Having had lunch with his wife, Faruk was caught in a police shooting while returning to work. A bullet punctured his chest, and Faruk passed away, leaving his family grieving.
Besides being an excellent worker, Faruk was also a loving husband to Kulsum Begum and a loving father to three precious daughters, ages 15, 11, and 5. Since Faruk's sudden and devastating death, his wife, Kulsum, has been unable to support their family with her hard work as a garment worker. Their daughters, who are currently studying at a Dakhil Madrasah, now face an uncertain future without their father's guidance and support. Kulsum was left with no choice but to take a part-time job to support her family, but she was unable to earn enough money to cover their basic needs. This has put the family in a vulnerable position, with the daughters facing the possibility of dropping out of their studies.
This tragic incident has plunged the family into overwhelming financial and emotional hardship. Besides losing Faruk, Kulsum now has to raise three daughters alone after losing her primary breadwinner. Despite her grief, the harsh realities of providing for her children, ensuring they receive an education, and keeping her family together compound the pain of losing her husband.
His family's situation calls out to us—to our collective humanity and compassion. Faruk’s story is one of countless others where innocent people suffer violence they did not provoke or deserve. During this unimaginable hardship, we humbly appeal to everyone who can help Kulsum and her daughters, whether financially, emotionally, or with prayers.
Now that this family lives in uncertainty and despair, it faces a future filled with modest hopes and dreams.
